Important Election Year Deadlines in Massachusetts

Check your registration. Text VOTER to 59798 to get a link to check it TODAY. If you’re not registered at all, get registered. If you have any trouble or need help, call 1866-OUR-VOTE.

For the November Election

• October 24 - Voter registration deadline
• October 27 - Vote by mail application deadline
• October 17-30 - Early Voting Period

Email Governor Healey (https://www.mass.gov/info-details/email-the-governors-office) and Secretary of State Galvin (CIS@sec.state.ma.us) to ask what they are doing to protect our state from partisan federal takeover or interference and protect election workers and administrators from physical threats, harassment, and intimidation.

Email your local Town Clerk to ask if they need additional volunteers before and during voting. Also ask how they are going to ensure that eligible voters get to cast a vote, that their vote gets counted, and how they will deal with possible intimidation at the polls. Here’s where to find your Town Clerk’s email address.

I. Support MA Candidates for State Office

At June’s IMAB meeting, we voted to support Lisa Field’s (Taunton/Easton) and Thomas Melville’s (Plainville) candidacy for Massachusetts State Representatives. While there may be other campaigns we support, we chose these two either because their seat is most at risk of turning red or we have a real chance of turning a red seat blue. These campaigns need your support.

Please consider donating and volunteering. You can get more information about their candidacy at Field’s and Melville’s website. In addition, IMAB sent questionnaires to all state rep and senate candidates and received responses from Field, Hawkins, and Melville. To see their responses, go here.

II. Ballot Questions

Question 1: Expanding the Public Records Law (to the Governor and Legislature)

III. Support Candidates Nationwide

• Get to know Indivisible Endorsed Candidates for the US House of Representatives and US Senate.

• Help Troy Jackson in Maine.

• Help Roy Cooper in North Carolina. Starting on June 14th, sign up here to join the phone bank every Sunday from 6-8pm, OR sign up here to join the phone bank every Wednesday from 6-8pm

• Democratic candidates in New Hampshire for US House of Representatives and Senate will need help too. Contact Indivisible Somerville if interested.

• Learn from ScamBusters about how to ensure that your donations to PACS are supporting legitimate efforts as opposed to scam PACS.

IV. Protect Voting and Encourage Voters

• Get trained to be a poll monitor.

• Get involved in protecting and expanding the vote in Massachusetts by connecting with these organizations.

• Join Indivisible Mass Coalition (IMC) Safeguard Elections Action Team meeting every Wednesday at 4:30pm. Register here.

• Join VoPro Pros to eliminate voter suppression and support free and fair elections. You can work from home and choose whether to sign up for on-going activities, run with communications on Slack, or sign up to help their Rapid Response Network, which has stand alone/short term impactful actions. If you join the Rapid Response Network, you will learn about opportunities to call voters in swing states to help them check on their registration status, to remind them to send in their ballots, and to ask them to be a poll observer.

• Prepare for Trump’s attempts to undermine the midterm elections by joining Hands Off Our Vote, Indivisible’s new program to ensure that 1) every voter can cast their ballot, and that 2) every vote is counted. See the the Hands Off Tool Kit, and watch the Hands Off Our Vote introductory session.

Watch the first session of Hands Off Our Vote. The next session is August 26 at 8pm.

• Donate to the States Project, Movement Voter Project, and State + Local Election Alliance to support local organizing efforts and less known but winnable races. These are places where your money goes a LONG way.

• Volunteer with Voteriders to help voters with their ID, or text voters with information about voting.

V. Write Postcards to Voters in Swing States

You can now write postcards to get out the vote for the November 2026 midterm elections! If you can’t join us for one of our in-person postcard writing sessions, sign up here to receive your postcards and write your postcards at home.

Learn more about the research on postcards to swing states! Some super interesting data here! Postcards to Swing States/Progressive Turnout Project wants to send 14.5M postcards to voters in 12 states in 2026. Research shows that these postcards increase turnout by 1.3%. This may not sound like much, but in 2024 control of six state legislative houses was decided by only 4,000 votes. In 2024, Democrats lost the House of Reps by only 7,310 votes.

Louisiana v. Callais Ruling Gutting the Voting Rights Act

• Racism is at the core of the assaults on democracy and there have been long-term efforts to erode our tools to fight it. Jasmine Crocket held a live panel Tuesday night right after the ruling. It does an amazing break-down of the impacts, implications and what needs to happen – watch the video.

Until Democrats can enact much-needed court reforms to counter the Supreme Court’s gutting the Voter Rights Act, if you can, please donate to the organizations that will be working overtime to counteract this decision:
